Questions.Answered plainly.
The things homeowners ask us before their first season.
Request a consultationWhen do you install?
Installations begin in October and run through early December. We schedule your date during the design visit so you know it well in advance, and many homes are complete in a single day. Take an October date and your lights are ready well before Thanksgiving. Returning clients who install early are rewarded for it.
Do the lights come on by themselves?
Yes. Every display is set on a timer, so the lights come on around dusk and go off at the hour you choose. You never have to touch a switch. If you would like the schedule changed mid season, give us a ring and we will take care of it.
Who owns the lights?
You do. The materials are purchased in your first season and they are yours from then on. We design the display, build it for your home, install it, maintain it, take it down and store it, and the storage is part of how the warranty works. If you ever move out of the area, or if we fail to look after you properly, come and collect them. They are your property.
Can you use lights I already own?
We build your display from commercial-grade materials, cut and fitted to your rooflines. It is the only way we can stand behind how it looks and warranty it for three years. Those materials are purchased in your first season and they belong to you afterward.
What happens if a strand or a bulb needs attention?
One phone call and we replace it, almost always within twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Every display carries a three-year warranty covering the materials and the service calls both, so a bulb out in the middle of December is our problem to solve rather than a line item to approve. There is no finger pointing, because there is nobody to point at. We sold the lights, we installed them, and we stored them.
When do you take everything down?
Takedown begins the first week of January and runs through the end of the month. You do not need to be home. We remove the display, label and organize it, and store it at our shop until next season.
Where are the lights stored?
At our shop in Woodstock, labeled to your home. Storage is not a convenience we tack on, it is part of the warranty. Because we control how your lights are handled, maintained and stored through the off season, we can stand behind them for three years. Nothing ends up in your garage.
What does it cost?
There is no one size. Our minimum for a first season is $2,000, and from there the price follows the house: the linear footage of roofline, the height and pitch of the roof, the number of trees, and the wreaths, garland and landscape lighting you would like included. Across our returning clients the range runs from around $1,200 for a smaller display to more than $20,000 for a full estate. You receive a fixed price before anything is ordered.
Does it cost the same every year?
No, it comes down. Year one carries the cost of the materials cut and built for your home. Every season after that is discounted, because that investment is already made. The display looks the same and the price is lower.
What is included in that price?
Custom design, all materials, professional installation, timers, maintenance through the end of the season, takedown, and off-season storage. There is one price for the season and no line items added later.
Do you light more than rooflines?
We do. Wrapped trunks and canopies, oversized wreaths, tailored garland at the entry and along rails, lit shrubs and landscape beds, and driveway and walkway lighting are all part of what we design.
What does it look like during the day?
Like a house with seasonal lighting on it. This is not permanent architectural lighting, and anyone who tells you a holiday display disappears at nine in the morning is overselling. There will be some cord visible somewhere. We route it where it draws the least attention, we keep what is left tidy, and we would rather tell you that now than have you notice it on the second of December.
Does anything permanent go on my house?
Very little. Clips carry most of a display and they come off with it. A staple goes in where a run genuinely needs one, and we avoid it wherever we can. The only permanent hardware is the anchor for a wreath or a run of garland, because a clip will not hold that weight.
Can I leave my lights up year round?
They are designed to be installed and used seasonally. A Georgia summer is harder on them than December ever is, and the UV will take a strand apart long before the cold would. They are your lights, so if you want them left up, we will leave them up. Two things to know before you do. It voids the warranty, and our response time through the summer months is a good deal slower than it is in season.
How long will my lights last?
It depends on the display. We use high quality, long lasting LED, and a roofline will often run eight years or more with very little trouble, because once it is clipped in place nothing moves it. Mini lights wrapped on trees are the shorter-lived part of any display, and four to five years is typical. The bark works against the strand all season, and the wire takes a pull every time a trunk is wrapped. That adds up. Because we take the display down and store it ourselves, we tend to see the wear before you do, and we will tell you.
What does the warranty cover?
Three years on the materials and the service calls both. A bulb out, a strand down, a run knocked loose by weather, all of it is a phone call and none of it is billed. The warranty is built on the fact that we install, maintain, remove and store the display ourselves, so nobody else handles it between seasons. After three years we are still the ones who come out, at materials plus a modest service fee.
What happens after the three years?
We keep looking after the display. Nothing lapses and nobody hands you off. Past the warranty period, if something needs replacing you pay for the materials and a modest service fee, and the call is answered on the same terms it always was. Most of our homes are with us far longer than three seasons.
Are you insured?
Yes, we carry general liability and workers compensation, and we are glad to provide a certificate of insurance on request. Holiday Lights of Atlanta has been lighting homes across the north side of Atlanta since 2013.
Is my home in your service area?
We serve Buckhead, Milton, Alpharetta, Roswell, East Cobb and Woodstock, along with much of the surrounding area. If you are not sure, give us a ring at 770.743.4392 and we will confirm.
